Big changes to Post-Graduation Canada Work Permit Program

by admin / Thursday, 10 October 2024 / Published in Canada PR, News, Work Visa

Big changes to Post-Graduation Canada Work Permit Program have been announced by Canada in an effort to control the number of people entering the nation as temporary residents. The requirements for study programs will change for candidates to the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program on November 1, 2024.

You must finish a study program at a PGWP-qualified approved learning institution and maintain your eligibility for a PGWP (even after November 1, 2024) in order to be eligible for one.

If your study program requires an area of study, you must complete a program that prepares you for a job in a field where there is a sustained shortage. The study areas are broken down into five main categories: trade and transportation, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), healthcare, and agriculture and agri-food.

To qualify for a PGWP, all you have to do is complete the existing requirements before November 1, 2024.

Before November 1, 2024, applicants for study permits must meet new qualifying standards

In the event that your study permit application was submitted prior to November 1, 2024, and you are requesting a PGWP on or after that date, you will also need to fulfill the updated requirement that is relevant to your case.

If you are a university graduate holding a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree:

Language requirement: The minimum level of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 7 in English or Niveaux de competency linguistique canadiens (NCLC) 7 in French across all four language areas is required to demonstrate your proficiency in either English or French.

If you have completed any other university course of study:

Language requirement: You must demonstrate your proficiency in all four language areas at least CLB 7 in English or NCLC 7 in French.

If you are a graduate of any program not on the above list, such as a college program:

Language requirement: You must demonstrate your proficiency in English or French in all four language areas, with a minimum level of CLB 5 in English or NCLC 5 in French.

When submitting your application, you must provide documentation demonstrating your ability to meet the PGWP’s language requirements in English. The IRCC employs Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) for French and Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English to determine your proficiency in any language.

You also need to provide evidence of your proficiency in speaking, listening, writing, and reading. It is required that the test results you submit with your application be no older than two years.
